Delegates and speakers at the National Lobster Hatchery Legacy event.
The Combined Universities in Cornwall (CUC) Research Programme was complemented by the Legacy Programme - a series of workshops aimed at developing research supervisory skills and research development expertise.
The Legacy Programme was designed to share best practice within the CUC partnership to assist the non-research intensive partners in developing capacity. Business partners were invited to attend where relevant.
Workshop topics included:
- grant applications
- the Research Excellence Framework (REF)
- doctoral supervision
- engaging students in research
- research impact
- presentation techniques
Events centred around disseminating scientific knowledge and networking also formed part of the Legacy Programme.
One event included a collaborative conference between the National Lobster Hatchery and the University of Exeter where experts explored stock enhancement in the UK. The event welcomed speakers from Norway, Canada, Ireland, the University and the Lobster Hatchery, and provided CUC partners and invited guests with an overview of previous assessment technologies and the potential for using new genetic tools.
The Legacy Programme also aspired to build a lasting legacy for Cornwall by developing research skills and expertise in the county.
